Getting to know me.

Hi, you can call me Jewels. I did'nt believe I had any real talent, period, not until later in life anyway. I always felt like an outsider and would refer to myself as being "too much Me!". Granted, we all have our individual quirks, but mine seemed to stand out above and beyond what you could imagine, even the hippies thought I was strange.

In Jr. High School I had a pair of roman sandals that laced up to my knees (no joke, I even think my mother still has that picture). It was at that time I also made my first piece of jewelry. I toke an empty pair of 7oz Coors beer cans, and made them into earrings for shorts day (yes I am that old, we could only wear shorts on day a year). At lunch one of the teachers told me to take them off. Everyone around told me not to, they were really backing me up, that was until the same teacher walked up and told me to follow him to the Office, I was on my own then. I was in big trouble! I was suspended for the rest of the day, but I see now the foundation for my future as a jewelry maker had been laid. I was recycling even then.

Then in High School I wore a necklace with brass jingle bells (yes jungle bells, and no it wasn't Christmas). I had a faux Dalmatian coat lined in black, so I would wear a black turtleneck, black skirt, black tights, and black shoes. That way when I opened my coat all you would see was my necklace (like you couldn't hear me coming). Needless to say I just got more and more bazaar, but at least by then it was in vouge. After High School I went through my braless period where I wore bowling shoes, hip hugger jeans, tee shirts, and Big earrings. I still remember being at a party where a guy I went to HS with looked at me in utter disbelief and ask "Are those bowling shoes?". I was unfazed and replied "Yes they are.". They were comfortable, need I say more? And in a nut shell that's how I got started. So how did I get from there to here? Well that's another story, so check back.
